ALFRED, N.Y. (AP) - Alfred University is honoring a slain New York state trooper at its football home opener on Saturday.
Trooper Nicholas Clark was shot and killed last month while responding to a suicidal man barricaded in his home near Corning.
Clark graduated from Alfred in 2011 and was a football standout.
Alfred now plans to honor Clark before its season opener against Thiel College on Saturday.
His former college teammates will be invited to the field during the pregame ceremonies along with troopers who served with Clark.
Clark's immediate family will serve as honorary captains during the opening coin toss.
