ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – The Elmira City School District Administration Offices have temporarily moved to the George Washington Elementary School building.

According to the city school district, the move is because of capital improvement projects underway at the 951 Hoffman Street address. They say these projects will take a minimum of one year and the Washington School building will be occupied for at least the next year by district administration staff.

The mailing address for the Elmira City School District will remain 951 Hoffman Street. All contact information listed on elmiracityschools.com, including phone numbers and emails, will also remain the same.

“As both a building owner and a good neighbor, the Elmira City School District looks forward to revitalizing the property with movement and activity. We think of this move as an opportunity to once again bring to life a school district property that holds fond memories for many Elmira residents. We are committed to maintaining a safe, happy and secure environment,” says Hillary Austin Superintendent of Schools for the Elmira City School District.

District-wide summer hours are 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Throughout the school year, staff will work second shift, 3 p.m. – 11 p.m.  Throughout the winter, snow removal will be handled as needed and will likely be taking place during a typical third shift schedule from 11 p.m. – 7 a.m. Questions regarding the move or the building can be directed to Mike Dunn, Director of Facilities in the Maintenance Department of the Elmira City School District, at 607.735.3980.
