Investigation Continues Surrounding Fatal Shooting of New York State Trooper

COOPERS PLAINS, N.Y. (WENY) -- New York State Police are investigating, after 29-year-old trooper Nicholas Clark was shot and killed in the Town of Erwin early Monday morning.
According to police, that first call came in around 3:30 am.
"The 911 call came in from the subject's estranged wife," says Chris Fiore, 1st Deputy Superintendent with New York State Police. "[She] reported he was thinking about committing suicide and she thought he might be armed."
Shortly after, officers were on scene at a home on Welch Road, near the Spencer Crest Nature Center.
Despite the efforts of crisis negotiators, the suspect, who has since been identified as 43 year old Steven Kiley, was unable to be reached.
State Police say at some point during the exchange, Kiley shot and killed trooper Nicholas Clark. Kiley, who was the principal of the Bradford Central School District, has also been confirmed dead.
His photo and information has since been removed from the district's website.
"The subject was later found also deceased inside the residence of an apparent gun shot wound," says Fiore.
Police were stationed throughout the afternoon at the Corning Community College campus as the scene was investigated.
State Police are still investigating this incident. They have not yet confirmed the specific events leading up to Trooper Clark's death.
