HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- According to scanner reports, Town and Country Fire Department and Erway Ambulance were called to the gravel pits off of E. Franklin St., just before Route 13, around 5:15 PM for a subject in the water who had not resurfaced. When we arrived on the scene, there were several ambulances, state troopers and the fire department on the scene. Officials over the scanner say they were able to rescue the individual and immediately started preforming CPR.
State police say the individual was transported to a local hospital as first responders performed life saving techniques. They say because the gravel pit is private property, everyone found on the site will be charged with trespassing. Monday evening, New York State Police confirmed the individual is a 16-year-old male who is still alive at the moment. At this time, we do not know the condition of the teen.
We're still working with State Police to gather more information as it becomes available. So stick with WENY News, on air and online, as this story develops.
