Annual Ice Bar Raises $25,000 for Red Cross

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) - The annual Ice Bar fundraiser at Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel has raised some cold hard cash.
Friday, officials from the hotel presented a $25,000 check to the American Red Cross. The donation is a portion of the proceeds from the annual event.
The money will go towards the Red Cross's disaster relief and veteran support services in the Chemung, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, and Yates counties.
The Executive Director of the Finger Lakes Chapter, Brian McConnell, says they're already looking forward to next year's event.
"This event has really grown and become, I think, the lead event, not only in the Schuyler County community but in the region, so to be a part of that and to be designated as the recipient agency, we're very humbled," says McConnell.
Last year, volunteers responded to 81 local disaster incident, reconnected nearly 200 military families via emergency communication and collected 15,000 blood donations.
