Local man performs dangerous stunt with car, video goes viral
UPDATE 10/9/2017: Corning man faces multiple charges for viral stunt involving car
TOWN OF CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- A dangerous stunt gone viral. One local man appears to be surfing his disabled car down a hill in Steuben County. The man appears to lose control, and was thrown from the car.
The whole incident was caught on camera, and has been shared all over the world. Some viewers on YouTube, where the video was posted, called the video fake. They either called it fake because it was the stupidest thing they've ever seen, or fake because, they can't believe the driver walked away.
At the beginning of the video, it starts off with a Snapchat-esque vertical shot of a hill, that appears to be Bailey Creek Road in the Town of Corning. Behind the camera, the bold plan unfolds from the video creator, "Alright my car is dead, I am going to skateboard down this hill." He then stands on the frame of the car, hanging on to the open door, as the car rolls down the hill and begins to pick up speed as it heads downhill.
What turned out to be a bad idea, just got much worse, when the car approaches a sharp curve.
As the car skids around the corner, the man holding onto the door appears to be clutching for dear life, when suddenly he's thrown from the car and into a ditch.
Shorty after the crash, he seems to be unharmed and makes several comments towards his beer that was scattered about - all while the video continues to roll.
On Youtube, "MGlBlaze" commented on the video, saying:
"Cars have seats and steering wheels. You should use them. You're lucky the road was clear - there was a blind crest and corner in the video and other drivers may not have seen you until it was too late and crashed in to you.? "
"Dlanes" made this comment:
"What were you thinking? At least you didn't kill anyone or get yourself killed.?"
According to the New York State Police, 21-year-old Christopher Merola from Corning was involved in a car accident on October 2nd on Bailey Creek Road, the same road that appears to be in the viral video.
The crash happened on the same day that the video was uploaded to web.
Police say no charges were filed in the crash. However, police may have been unaware of the events leading up to the crash itself.
