ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Earlier this year, ride-sharing services, like Lyft and Uber, became available in the Upstate New York Region. Now, with a nearly $60 million airport renovation, officials are working to establish agreements for those services.

During Monday's Chemung County Aviation Committee meeting, Director of Aviation, Bill Hopper, submitted a proposal for a public hearing to allow the airport to enter into an agreement with Lyft.

The agreement is non-exclusive and would be effective for one year. Lyft would be able to pick up passengers from the airport and the ride-sharing service would pay the county $2.00 per pick-up.

Uber, however, has been more of a challenge. Hopper says the company won't return calls or emails, but there is no current deadline for Uber to make an official deal.

"We don't really have a deadline right now, but we're working on a plan and I think it's going to be within the next month or two that we'll either bring them to the table or somehow preclude them from using the airport," Hopper says.

The public hearing regarding the agreement with Lyft is currently set for November 6th. WENY News will continue to follow any other agreements with the airport as this story continues to develop.
