ELMIRA -- Meals on Wheels of Chemung County is celebrating a big birthday.
     Friday, volunteers and local big wigs gathered to celebrate the organization's 40th anniversary.
     In that time, the organization has grown from serving nine clients to more than 2,100.
     It recently built a new kitchen and expanded space for volunteers.
     Meals on Wheels of Chemung County has also been honored with the Magnet Accreditation -- it's the only Meals on Wheels in the country with the distinction.
     “[I am] proud. But it's not my award, it's the community's award, it's the volunteers' award, it's our award,” said executive director Darlene Ike.
     State Senator George Winner and county executive Tom Santulli declared Friday “Meals on Wheels Day" in Chemung County.
