S. Tier Pastor Allegedly Steals $50,000 from Non-Profit

November 5, 2009

A Southern Tier pastor is behind bars after allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from a local Habitat for Humanity chapter.
New York State Police charged 27-year-old David Heckman of Binghamton with second-degree grand larceny.
Police say Heckman stole more than $50,000 from the Tioga County Habitat for Humanity, where he was treasurer.
Heckman would allegedly have habitat homeowners pay mortgage payments to him directly.
The arrest follows other grand larceny charges, after police say Heckman made unauthorized purchases he charged to the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Newark Valley, where he was a pastor.
     Police are still investigating
