HORSEHEADS-- The superintendent in the Horseheads Central School District says he thinks the district's athletic fields are safe from contamination.
Superintendent Ralph Marino gave an update on the alleged toxic contamination to the board Thursday night.
Right now, soil samples of the district's athletic fields are in labs for testing.
Initial observations and screening will field instruments came back negative for contamination.
Marino assumes the lab results will too - but says so many people are involved with those fields, it's important to take it a step further.
“They're community schools, not just the students use these facilities, adults as well. So, we want to make sure that it is a safe and healthy environment,” Marino said.
The results should be in by the board's next meeting on November 19th.
An environmental engineer will be at that meeting to go over the results.
