CORNING - Jennifer Colon missed the first day of the 'Children's Chill Chaser's Shop' event at The Salvation Army in Corning. She was working a 12-hour shift to support her three growing kids.
When Jennifer came to The Salvation Army this morning, a mere minutes after the coat give-away began, all the children's coats already gone. “We've never run out completely,” said Captain Kim Merchant, of The Salvation Army in Corning, “we haven't always been able to meet every need but this is the first year that we've run out completely.” But moments after Jennifer was told there were no more girl coats, workers brought in four giant bags full of donations, all brand new kids coats.
And they left as quickly as they came. “But we were blessed this morning,” said Captain Merchant, “we were able to help a few more people.” The Salvation Army is still accepting donations and will keep them in their clothing room. If you would like to donate or need a coat they're at 32 Denison Parkway in Corning.
