BIG FLATS-- The economy has taken its toll on a local charity. Food pantries and soup kitchens are scrambling to meet demand. Ninety-nine percent of food banks reported an increase in demand over the last year including the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. CEO Natasha Thompson tells us there was a huge increase in demand last year and this year its even seven percent higher. She says there are a lot of people needing help for the first time. "Due to layoffs, due to having trouble paying bills, there are a variety of different reasons but thats having a tremendous impact on our member agency impact," Thompson said. She says more than ever they could use your help filling the empty shelves at the food bank. You can make donations directly to the facility on CR 64, or donate online.
