New proposed sign laws in Big Flats would give business owners more flexibility to advertise their stores. The Director of Planning in Big Flats, Steve Polzella, says the proposed laws would allow two signs per business, instead of one. Right now, a lot of stores are violating the existing code, so the town is trying to make having two signs legal. Polzella says the new law does not expand the amount of space stores have to put up signs, it just allows owners more flexibility in how to use it. The proposed regulations would also lower the overall square footage allowed for directory signs like the Consumer Square and Arnot Mall identification signs. The town board is making amendments and will post the proposed law on it's website by September 23rd.
