WASHINGTON---The White House issued a statement on Tuesday saying the President's advisors recommend he veto funding for the VH-71 Helicopter program.
This comes after the Obama Administration already cancelled the program causing Lockheed Martin in Owego to lay off hundreds of workers. But the program could have a chance to be restored. The Marine One project is included in the defense bill working its way through the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, Congressman Maurice Hinchey remains committed to saving these jobs. He along with Congressman Michael Acuri blocked an amendment to the defense bill aimed at cutting the helicopter program. The House is expected to vote on the bill this week. |
